Role as a Statesman and President:

His accomplishments were rewarded by the British with a knighthood in 1939. Interestingly, his greatest contribution to public life came in 1962 as the second President of India, when he tried to ameliorate the gap between politics and knowledge, advocating science, arts, and literature. He donated all his presidential salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to set an exemplary moral standard for future leaders.
