Is Russia going to be in civil war ?

 Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, an elite army of mercenaries serving alongside the Russian Army, is now combating a rebellion against Russian President Vladimir Putin.



In an unprecedented move, the leader of Russia's Wagner mercenary organization claims to have taken control of "all military facilities" in Rostov-on-Don, a Russian city in the country's south. He claimed that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was responsible for an aerial strikes on Wagner's camp in Ukraine, that died 2,000 men. In revenge, he has asked for a violent uprising to remove the Russian military commander. 

Who is Yevgeny  Prigozhin?


Yevgeny Prigozhin is a Russian entrepreneur best known as the creator of the Wagner Group, a private military company (PMC) involved in conflicts in Ukraine, Syria, and Libya. He initially denied being associated with the group, but eventually admitted to being its founder. Prigozhin, nicknamed "Putin's chef" due to contracts with the Kremlin, has been celebrated as a master of media and social media manipulation. The FBI is seeking for him for suspected role in the Internet Research Agency's political and electoral activity during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. He's also had tensions with Russia's Ministry of Defense, openly criticizing its leaders and accusing them of restricting resources to his troops in Ukraine. He presently planning a military coup against Russia's the government.


     What is the Wagner Group?



The Wagner Group, officially known as PMC Wagner, is popular for its involvement in various conflicts and operations across the world. It can be referred to as a "shadow army" due of its secret. Mercenaries of the Wagner Group have been declared to be engaged in conflicts such as the Ukrainian conflict, the Syrian Civil War, and the Central African Republic, among others. It is believed to have been established in 2010, but it first made an appearance in 2014, when it provided support to pro-Russian separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine. It only had approximately 5,000 fighters at the time and mostly operated in the Middle East and Africa. However, its personnel and influence expanded dramatically during the separatist conflict in Ukraine's Donbas region which began after Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Wagner quickly earned a notorious reputation for its severe techniques, showcasing abilities in an array of globally battlefields. The group fought with President Bashar Assad's Russian-backed regime all over the Syrian civil war. The group had a major role in Russia's acquisition of the eastern Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in the Russia-Ukraine war.

President Vladimir Putin was outraged by Yevgeny Prigozhin's declaration, labelling it a "betrayal" and promising to punish those responsible. Prigozhin states that his objective is not a coup by the military, instead the pursuit of justice.
